Client Representation Services

What is Client Representation?

Building or Purchasing a vessel can be a daunting undertaking.  Bringing the correct set of advisors and representatives to bear on your project, and protect your investment and dream.

GS Marine Surveys acts as an Independent advisor & client representative, to its client only. It is not affiliated with the yard, broker, or subcontractors. Its work is conducted in accordance with the International Institute of Marine Surveying guidance principles.

We provide clarity, and confidence throughout the build or purchase process.

We ensure that what is promised is delivered and that your vessel meets both expectation and standard from the outset.

What Client Representation Involves

Pre-Contract Advisory

Before you commit, we help you make informed decisions.

  • Review of specification, drawings, and options
  • Identification of omissions or ambiguities
  • Advice on equipment selection and upgrade value
  • Practical input on systems (electrical, propulsion, tankage)
  • Guidance on build vs resale considerations

Outcome: A clear, technically robust specification aligned with your intended use.

Contract & Build Stage Review

We ensure the contract protects your position.

  • Review of build contract and specifications
  • Advice  on stage payments linked to verified milestones
  • Clarification of acceptance standards and tolerances
  • Identification of contractual risk areas

Outcome: Reduced exposure to disputes, delays, or specification drift.

Build Oversight & Yard Inspections

We attend the yard at key stages to independently verify build quality.

Typical inspections include:

  • Hull and structural lamination
  • Bulkhead bonding and structural elements
  • Installation of seacocks and through-hull fittings
  • Engine and sail drive installation
  • Electrical and plumbing systems

Each visit includes:

  • Photographic documentation
  • Written report
  • Clear identification of concerns or non-conformities

Outcome: Early identification of issues when they are easiest and least costly to resolve.

Systems Verification & Pre-Delivery Inspection

Prior to handover, we carry out a detailed inspection of onboard systems.

  • Electrical system testing and load assessment
  • Plumbing, tankage, and seacock operation
  • Installation  quality and service access review
  • Equipment  verification against specification

A structured snagging list is produced and issued to the yard.

Outcome: Confidence that the yacht is complete, functional, and compliant with the agreed specification.

Sea Trials Attendance

We represent your interests during sea trials.

  • Engine performance and propulsion checks
  • Handling  and steering assessment
  • Rig setup and sailing performance baseline
  • Testing  of onboard systems under load

Outcome: Independent confirmation that the yacht performs as expected.

Post-Delivery Support

Support continues beyond handover if required.

  • Follow-up inspection after initial use
  • Assistance  with warranty claims
  • Advice on modifications or upgrades

Outcome: Continued independent support as you transition into ownership.
